Extreme skew surge estimation combining systematic skew surges and historical record sea levels on the English Channel and North Sea coasts

چکیده
Coastal planning implies the estimation of extreme sea levels. As distribution astronomical high tides can be predicted, most recent publications suggest focusing on skew surges. Historical information, record levels observed before beginning systematic tide gauge recordings, improve estimations. The corresponding surges estimated but are not necessarily exhaustive. Indeed, some historical remain unnoticed if they combined with low or moderate tides, for a variety reasons. To deal this exhaustiveness issue, previous publication proposed an unbiased method combining period This appeared more reliable than previously approaches. present study aims at presenting broader evaluation method, based its application to nine sites located English Channel and North Sea coasts. is also improved consider several periods various types information. Results confirm reliable, useful, relevant. A number recommendations formulated selection use information level frequency analyses.

On skew Armendariz and skew quasi-Armendariz modules
Let $alpha$ be an endomorphism and $delta$ an $alpha$-derivationof a ring $R$. In this paper we study the relationship between an$R$-module $M_R$ and the general polynomial module $M[x]$ over theskew polynomial ring $R[x;alpha, delta]$. We introduce the notionsof skew-Armendariz modules and skew quasi-Armendariz modules whichare generalizations of $alpha$-Armendariz modules and extend thecla...
متن کاملCorrigendum: A global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels
Extreme sea levels, caused by storm surges and high tides, can have devastating societal impacts. To effectively protect our coasts, global information on coastal flooding is needed. Here we present the first global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels (GTSR data set) based on hydrodynamic modelling. GTSR covers the entire world's coastline and consists of time series of tides and ...
متن کاملSpatial and Temporal Variability and Long-Term Trends in Skew Surges Globally
Storm surges and the resulting extreme high sea levels are among the most dangerous natural disasters and are responsible for widespread social, economic and environmental consequences. Using a set of 220 tide gauges, this paper investigates the temporal variations in storm surges around the world and the spatial coherence of its variability. We compare results derived from two parameters used ...
متن کاملChanges in extreme sea-levels in the Baltic Sea
In a climate change context, changes in extreme sea-levels rather than changes in the mean are of particular interest from the coastal protection point of view. In this work, extreme sea-levels in the Baltic Sea are investigated based on daily tide gauge records for the period 1916 2005 using the annual block maxima approach. Extreme events are analysed based on the generalised extreme value di...
متن کاملMapping Sea Bird Densities on the North Sea: Combining Geostatistics and Generalised Linear Models
Using airborne strip-transect monitoring data, maps of bird densities were estimated for several bird species. Because the densities are transformed count data with many genuine zeros, we combined a generalised linear modelling approach with geostatistics for the spatial interpolation. Water depth and distance to coast were used as covariates to model the trend. A generalised estimating equatio...
